Toby is just an ordinary mutt puppy. He was born into a litter of four from a feral mother. His family lives in a den, near the forest. All four puppies love to wrestle, and they spend hours each day chasing and catching frogs. Their mother forages for food in a nearby trash can. In other words, life is easy for this litter of puppies. The entire family lives by only one simple rule. "Stay away from humans. Humans mean trouble." So, Toby’s life must be pretty simple, right?

Wrong. Toby's life is anything but simple! The author, W. Bruce Cameron, wrote this “novel for humans” with one question in mind. What if dogs lived multiple times to fulfill their purpose in life? As a dog-lover himself, W. Bruce Cameron could not help but notice that dogs seem to know more about how we’re feeling than we do. He has written many other novels, including A Dog’s Journey, The Dogs of Christmas, Emory’s Gift, and most recently, A Dog for Christmas.

Toby is not in the least bit normal. He lives multiple times as he struggles to fufill his purpose in life, and answer life’s most important question-- why are we here? As he travels from life to life, he learns lessons that will bring him closer to finding life’s purpose. So, follow Toby as he turns from mutt to Golden Retriever, from Golden Retriever to German Shepard, and from German Shepard to black lab. It’s bound to be the adventure of his lifetimes!

If you are an animal lover, this tear- jerking and sometimes hilarious novel is one you shouldn’t wait to read!
